Jonathan worked on matters including:• Advising the ASIC Innovation Hub.• Crowd source funding, such as Peer to Peer (P2P), Peer to Business (P2B) and Business to Business (B2B) within the scope of Market Place lending and Crowd Source Equity or Debt Funding. • Technical areas including blockchain / Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) as required.• Privacy law, consent management, wealth management platforms, general platforms and platform interfaces for existing products and services. Jonathan was awarded in 2017 an ASIC subset of “Australian of the Year” award for work in the Fintech and related spaces as part of the broader Innovation Hub Team of ASIC.

The Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation, is an independent community of scholars based at UNSW Sydney. As a partnership between Allens and UNSW Law & Justice, the hub adds breadth and depth to research on the diverse interactions among technological change, law, and legal practice. The partnership enriches academic and policy debates and drives considered reform of law and practice through engagement with the legal profession, the judiciary, industry, government and the broader community.New technology poses challenges which cannot be resolved solely by legal scholarship focused on particular technological contexts repeated across each field of disruption. We need to understand the challenges through a broader historical, legal and policy frame with close attention to developments in other jurisdictions and genuine cross-disciplinarity. Jonathan is a member of the Australian AI Working Group committee, IT-043, within Standards Australia. This committee provides an Australian voice and a vote at the Artificial Intelligence ISO (SC 42 of JTC 1, which provides strategic input into standardisation of AI globally). Jonathan has been helping students develop an understanding of the commercial and legal application of new technologies in a range of industries from the mobility sector, to health, through to financial services. This covers the recent trends of ethics in AI, commercial application of blockchain/distributed and centralised ledgers, IoT. This is applied for the digital development of new business models including platforms (PaaS), distributed businesses (DeFi or similar) and future digital business models and related technology (e.g. Big Data/AI and hyper-personalisation or conversational interfaces). Jonathan teaches Business Intelligence (BI) and Business Analytics for the University’s business faculty. The focus has been on competitive advantage in the Information Age, which is currently a leading business management priority for many globally operating businesses. Topics have covered the assessment and management of organisational data quality, multidimensional data modelling and integration, management of structured and unstructured data (including those created by social media), business aspects of data warehousing, innovation through advanced analytics, BI driven performance management, business process intelligence, active enterprise intelligence, and management of complex BI projects. In the delivery of the course, Jonathan provided executive educative students with the opportunity to explore and gain increased knowledge of the capabilities and applications of emerging service automation technologies and how to effectively and ethically deploy these technologies within their respective organisation for optimal business value through use of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Cognitive Automation (CA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), along with the ethical implications around future of work, and good application of ethics and corporate governance in intelligent automation on issues such as the use of Big Data, the Internet of things (IoT), and other emerging technological megatrends.

As a Tutor and Assessor of the University’s Learning Facilitation Short Course, Jonathan taught Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Cognitive Automation (CA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and how these technologies are changing the way businesses are seeking to increase productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction.He covered the ethical and commercial implications employers face in preparation for the future of work, and how intelligent automation technologies can be applied in providing solutions for future business models.

A secondment where Jonathan had the Oasis businesses as his primary clients then also gained PortfolioOne, another wrap platform, and SuperConcepts, a SMSF provider, as clients. He provided advice on:• major projects; and• day to day legal work including drafting and reviewing of various disclosure documents, marketing materials, a range of agreements and constituent documents. Experience included work in:• Superannuation;• MIS;• share trading;• dispute handling;• contractual work (especially including IT and corporate work);• NDAs; • With the broader legal team advised on regulatory changes including FOFA, short form PDSs, MySuper, implications of FATCA and the introduction of the Chi-X Australia market; and• General matters involving Property Transactions, IP, Property Securities Act ramifications and probate. Also stepped up to be the legal adviser for the Compliance Committee for the broader Superannuation and Investments business. Provided advice on a range of compliance issues and ways to find solutions or consider the need to report these.
