My name is Jonathan Keck. I teach in the Social Science department, in which I serve as chair. In addition, I am the Director of Educational Technology at Aquinas High School.I have devoted the last 14 years to the study of Ancient and Medieval European and Near Eastern cultural history and religions. In that time, I earned a B.A. in European History and an M.A. in Ancient and Medieval History. I continue to research and write on syncretic cultural and religious interactions. While cultural history and religion remain my primary passions, teaching in a 21st-century context has become an issue of primary concern. I have contributed to the implementation of and the ongoing development of best pedagogical practices at Aquinas High School’s iPad 1:1 program. As a teacher and instruction coordinator, I am currently exploring student-led learning, problem- and challenge-based learning, and technology-driven research and choice. I have taught AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP United States History, AP Art History, Honors Philosophy, Honors Latin I, Honors Latin II, and Honors Latin III, and AP Latin.

Long Term Substitute TeacherSan Bernardino Unified School District Aug 2007 - Jul 2011San Bernardino, CaliforniaI worked closely with the teaching team and Assistant Principal of Academics at Cesar Chavez Middle School providing classroom instruction to a wide range of classes. At Chavez, I spent six months teaching 6th Grade Social Science and Langauge Arts and six months in a self-contained exceptional learners class of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders managing many IEPs and 504 plans. I spent many months working in an "Opportunity" class with students whom were at risk for expulsion or dropping-out. I also spent many months proctoring, collecting, collating, and interpreting various state standardized tests, in particular, the STAR. These experiences exposed me to and helped me thrive in classroom management, teaching strategies, special education, and lesson plan development. But the professional skills learned through this process may have served me even more: Flexibility, Working Under Pressure, Time Management, Adaptability, Teamwork, etc. All teachers should have to spend some significant time as a substitute. It is a great teacher.
