I was asked by my Operating Systems professor, David Wonnacott, to research alternatives to the logic gate simulator software the department uses for its hardware, programming languages, compiler design, and operating systems courses. The old software, TkGate, is a powerful logic simulator that unfortunately is no longer under development, and is riddled with bugs that have gone unresolved. Based on my research into the best logic simulators, and my extensive knowledge of how such software is used in Haverford's courses, I recommended that the department begin using Logisim.To convince my professor that the software would be a sufficient alternative, I developed a 16-bit RISC microprocessor with ALU, branching, load/store from RAM, function calls/returns, polled/interrupt-based I/O, and multiple thread contexts to demonstrate Logisim's power, ease of use, and applicability to the Haverford computer science curriculum. To demonstrate the I/O capabilities of the processor, I wrote input/output device drivers in Haverford's own HERA-C language, a collection of macros which can be compiled/debugged in a C/C++ development environment (see http://www.haverford.edu/computerscience/resources/software/HERA/ for more details on HERA).

Haverford's Department of Summer Camps and Programs is responsible for the accommodation of all on-campus summer camps, conferences, events, and wedding receptions during the summer season. As manager, I worked closely with the Director of Summer Programs in the spring of 2013 to prepare the Department for the upcoming summer, performing such functions as checking and databasing the keys to all on-campus residence halls and academic spaces, hiring and training a staff of ten students, and meeting with camp administrators to determine how our department would assist with the day-to-day operations of their programs.During the summer months, my job was to lead the student staff. I created and managed their weekly work schedules, and made sure that our staff was divided efficiently between tasks so that any request for assistance from a camp or program could be handled quickly and professionally. I was also typically sent in to resolve the various conflicts that would arise between different programs, and was on-call for emergencies in case a camp needed assistance during our off-hours.

Haverford's Department of Summer Camps and Programs is responsible for the accommodation of all on-campus summer camps, conferences, events, and wedding receptions during the summer season. As a staff member, I was dispatched to handle the day-to-day needs of each of these camps and programs. Often, coming up with solutions to these needs would require my coordination with other campus departments, including Dining Services, Security, Facilities, A/V Services, and the IT staff.

The Coop is Haverford's late-night alternative to the Dining Center. I supervised the Coop's nightly operations, from hiring and training over 30 new student staff members to assisting with nightly opening and closing procedures. Based on each student's performance and sales numbers, I would also create and adapt the nightly shift schedules, maximizing the Coop's nightly profits and ensuring a clean, safe, and customer-friendly restaurant experience.
