Energy AnalystThe Energy Group Oct 2012 - Apr 2014Worked as an Energy Analyst providing energy efficiency consulting services, program development and implementation. Supporting TEG's management of MidAmerican Energy's Nonresidential Equipment Program, reviewing energy efficiency projects for the industrial and large commercial customers. According to publicly available Iowa Utility Board filings in MidAmerican's 2014-2018 plan, the program is resourced with $848,589 in administrative costs with anticipated incentive (rebate) amounts of $8,348,809. The review process evaluates energy savings, cost savings, and incentive amounts for each project. Cumulative Nonresidential Equipment program target savings levels for 2014 electric savings were: 59.7 TWh (annually) and 9.2 MW of peak reduction; the gas savings goals for 2014 were: 824,801 Therms (annually) and 11,496 peak therms (annually). In projects requiring a custom review, I worked directly with customers to help identify the technical information necessary for project evaluation, performed technical analyses of applications to confirm scope, cost and potential energy savings, performed field verification on completed projects and calculated revised expected annual energy savings from installed projects, as necessary.Other duties included development of an alternative energy feasibility analysis capability for the business, providing a variety of technical analyses for other utility projects, building energy modeling (utilizing eQUEST) to quantify savings between energy efficiency measures and baseline system consumption, performing energy audits, and program support to each TEG division.

Energy Services EngineerIowa Association Of Municipal Utilities Apr 2010 - Sep 2012Ankeny, Iowa, UsAssisted Iowa's municipal electric and natural gas utilities with regulatory and analytical assistance, including annual regulatory reports, DSM program support, identifying energy efficiency program opportunities, commercial energy efficiency audits, program development & conducting membership surveys.Previous IAMU projects: Helped prepare, evaluate, and coordinate an RFP process on behalf of municipalities seeking to retrofit High Pressure Sodium lights with LED street lighting. The process resulted in the retrofit of 1,288 HPS lights in Iowa with LED street lighting technology. This led to annual savings estimated at 677 MWh annually in the 16 participating communities. Helped prepare, evaluate, and coordinate an annual RFP process, on behalf of 136 municipal electric utilities to participate in a bulk compact fluorescent lighting purchasing program. Since 2010, the project has led to the purchase of 85,000 CFLs yielding an estimated cumulative annual savings of 5 GWh.Concluded work with ARRA funded Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funded projects. Assessed community energy usage, found overlooked opportunities for energy efficiency, identified barriers to the adoption of energy saving measures, and facilitated community energy events accelerating the adoption of energy efficiency measures. The project tasks included performing benefit/cost analyses of energy efficiency options based on energy audits and communicating results at community meetings. Assisted in preparation of intermediate and final reports that cataloged and synthesized energy use data, community demographic profiles, analyses of energy audits, and quantified impacts of the community energy efficiency event(s).Assisted in a municipal electric utility community installation of "smart" (load controlling) thermostats, helped to train other installers in the project and provided troubleshooting during the community implementation as needed. -
