Camp changed my life. I have tried to repay that gift by working at camps ever since. To achieve this goal, I went to Point University where I graduated with a BS in Music Education. Many of my counseling skills were gained when I served as leader of a Public Relation team that was responsible to serve in camps across the southeast for three summers. After two years in seminary, I realized I wanted to go into camping as a full-time occupation. My first full-time camp position was in Colorado where I gained ropes course experience and team leading skills. After this, I was an intern at a camp in WI called Timber-lee and learned practical skills in camp management and financial management and outdoor education. Upon completing this training, I obtained full-time employment at Pine Summit Camp in CA as Director of the Recreation Program. I hired, oriented and trained all summer staff for over four years. During this time, I managed the recreation budget and learned to work effectively with every department of the camp. During my time there I was an integral part in obtaining ACA Accreditation for Pine Summit. My accomplishments included revamping, redesigning and updating the archery program, BB program and paint-ball program, reevaluation of the mountain board program and I developed a program to facilitate the use and maintenance of equipment and was responsible for the Installation of two new Zip-lines. I developed a system to keep track of activity participants through all activities. I consider one of my greatest accomplishments the development of a recruiting and training program for summer staff that resulted in a strong family team that had a 60% return rate of staff. My supervisors consistently praised my department as “the one department they did not have to worry about.” After six successful years in activities, I was promoted to Director of Operations. As the DO I provided direct support and supervision to the departments that reported to me as well as all part time and seasonal staff. I helped create a strong culture of teamwork and responsibility among the departments. I worked with the department heads to create goals and monitored their budgets. I have continued my education by obtaining a MBA from Western Governors University.
