6/2019 - 10/2024: Software Engineer for Nike Innovation I worked on a wide variety of software and hardware projects with a skilled team of Mechanical Engineers. I designed and built manufacturing testing machines from hardware to touchscreen interfaces. For electronics prototypes, I wrote firmware, various integration tools (from mobile apps to command line data extraction tools). I worked on 3D design for various projects and used Rhino 3D/Grasshopper/Python to bridge the gap between the digital and the physical parts of projects. I like finding ways to connect disparate systems to increase efficiency and create new capabilities. Customized and extended NodeBB for a variety of client needs. NodeBB is a very versatile forum/communication platform written in Javascript using Node.js and Express for a variety of client needs. NodeBB has a plugin and theming system that allows the platform to be adapted for a wide range of uses.One of my clients uses NodeBB to manage a yearly festival. The site allows participants to discuss festival topics, purchase tickets, organize ride sharing and participate in forums that are only for ticket holders.The versatility and extensibility of NodeBB make it a great foundation platform for creating a wide variety of sites that require user interaction and control of permissions.

Consulting, design, and implementation of software systems requiring integration between a variety of technologies.I set up a continuous integration and testing system for a Canadian media company using Jenkins, PHP, Selenium Web Driver, Javascript, jQuery, Shell Scripting, Linux, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and IMAP libraries to provide continuous automated testing of deployed software systems.I worked on a website using customized Google Maps to integrate and display data coming from multiple backend systems via REST interfaces.

Wrote software for an Alaskan fishing boat's engine monitoring system. This included programming industrial PLCs (programmable logic controllers) to collect, aggregate and report engine cylinder and turbo inlet and outlet temperature data to touchscreen HMIs (Human Machine Interface) devices. The HMI's were networked and could display data in both the cockpit and engine room. I created a user interface for the HMI's that clearly displayed the engine state, allowed easy adjustment of warning and alarm states. I also worked with a variety of web technologies to create a static blog system using Jekyll, Markdown, Github Pages, Underscore, Angular.js, jQuery, HTML, Javascript and called out to various REST Api's (primarily Flickr).I enjoy working across a variety of technologies to create integrated tools that make complicated things seem easy.

Recruited and managed a skilled software engineering team to implement a number of projects that covered a full stack of web based technologies. We employed a wide range of technologies to implement our projects including Java, Scala, Amazon Web Services, Git, Github, Jenkins CI, Jive Software's SBS Platform, REST interfaces, SQL Databases (MYSQL, Postgress), NoSQL systems (Mongo, Cassandra), and many more.
