Working as an Evaluations Analyst at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), I assisted the Program Evaluation Office in its efforts to assess the commercial and developmental impact of the agency’s grant activity funding. In this position I engaged with U.S. contractors and host country beneficiaries working to implement early-stage project planning activities in a wide array of sectors including transportation, renewable energy, water and the environment, and telecommunications. Later, as a Research Analyst for the Latin America and Caribbean Office, I provided programmatic support for an active portfolio of regional activities. In this role, I continually engaged with relevant project stakeholders to ensure that grant-funded activities progressed adequately. Law students participating in one of the many specialized clinic programs at Sturm College of Law take on the responsibility of representing indigent clients in a wide array of legal situations. In those cases in which Spanish was the native language of the client in question, I served as an interpreter/translator for the student and client so that the client could be represented fully and so that everything would come across clearly between the parties in question. While doing a semester in DC at Maxwell University, I interned with USTDA's Latin America and Caribbean team. In addition to working on the projects discussed below, work at USTDA provided me with very unique insight into trade as carried out in Washington DC, and more specifically into Public-Private Partnerships. Interning at this Costa Rican NGO dedicated to protecting the rights of women and children, I learned first-hand the challenges faced by NGOs in the developing world. More importantly, I gained a sense of the adversity faced by some of the most vulnerable members of modern society.
