Jonathan is a second-year medical student at Meharry Medical College, one of the nation's oldest and largest historically Black academic health science centers. Bridging the gap in health disparities for minorities, specifically African Americans and Hispanics, in the United States, is a personal goal due to his family heritage. He has distinct interests in the fields of neuroscience, public health and social medicine, and technology. A former cancer research scholar and student principal investigator, he is a self-starter that is passionate about research and biopharma having successfully led and managed laboratory teams, and completed several funded projects leading to publications and awards. He hopes to combine his interests to maximize his efforts in influencing health policy in the United States while pursuing a career in medicine as an executive in the field of healthcare and a physician scientist.Currently, Jonathan is an intern at Clinical Research Associates and a student ambassador for the National Center for Clinical Trial Diversity at Meharry Medical College and Dry January USA, initiatives led by Dr. Michael Caldwell who is the Associate Vice President of Vaccine Research & Education at Meharry Medical College.Additionally, Jonathan is the CEO of a health tech start-up, Centro Health Solutions, with the main objective of leveling the playing field for small to mid-size healthcare practices in the United States of America. I was awarded a grant from the National Institute of Health provided through the University of Hawaii of Manoa. After thorough research, I found that although the numbers of those who were insured in the Tri-County Charleston metropolitan area in South Carolina were rising, the number of those who were prematurely dying was rising as well. So, with this funding, I decided to investigate the social determinants of access to healthcare services in this population. During my time here, I conducted a quantitative analysis on the sample population, a data set that was provided by Trident United Way, with the biostatistical support from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The majority of my results were found to be statistically significant and I am currently working on submitting my work for publication.

Cancer Research Scholar
For this project, the lab I worked in modified a set of differential equations to incorporate an inflammatory response to more accurately model breast cancer cell growth. We utilized a trypan blue assay to collect raw data from the MCF-7 cancer cell line to implement into the modified set of differential equations.We also examined toxic or mitogenic effects of red clover and indigo extracts on MCF-7 cancer cell line and MCF-12A non-cancerous cell line. An MTS assay was utilized to collect data from both the MCF-7 cancer cell line and MCF-12A non-cancerous cell line treated with red clover and/or indigo extracts at different concentrations.
