#FilterTheNoise is an educational project I passionately believe in. In the intertwined world of media and politics, our inability to rewire our critical thinking to evolving information has direct consequences for society and it's therefore fundamental we teach students - and adults - to filter the information online.These email lessons and resources are destined for teachers of civics, media literacy, digital citizenship and social studies, high school and above. They can enhance the existing teaching resources you have or act as stand-alone courses.Resources are free and will remain so :)

I started out by reimagining the way history was taught in school and turning history lessons into engaging experiences complete with activities, fun quizzes, media and first-person narrations. The aim was also to shine a spotlight on lesser known history and other viewpoints, with an emphasis on critical thinking.My role evolved over time with marketing (outreach, newsletters, copy creation, campaigns), customer support and retention, community building, as well as product management, becoming central to my day-to-day tasks.As a co-founder of a digital start up, you inevitably do a little of everything and have an overview of all things related to the company, including the importance of setting targets, drawing up business plans and monetising a product.

Teaching business English opened new horizons for me. Going to offices and providing staff with cultural and linguistic tips was a great way to approach language learning.

Replying to emails from disgruntled customers was not the most exciting job, but it taught me the importance of providing good service and management skills as I progressed into a team leader position.Importantly, it enabled me to save enough money to travel to South America!

I was a freelance sports journalist for Belgium's most sold newspaper. As the "specialist" on English football, I was lucky to have more room to develop stories.Journalism shortened my sentences which had considerably lengthened after studying philosophy for three years! It made me value the importance of "more is less", selecting the right words to get messages across.Financially, it was difficult to make ends meet however, so I sought other opportunities.

English teaching 1-on-1 and to groups. By this time, I had considerable teaching experience and was happy to evolve, making lessons more and more student-centred.In parallel, I was a freelance journalist, but it remained difficult to have enough money at the end of the month so I explored other avenues.

English teaching to unemployed adults. This was the first group of students I ever taught and I loved them!Being a teacher is about passion, preparation and patience. The key is to allow students to express themselves and find joy in learning.

Hotel room cleaning. After nearly getting fired for being too slow (my philosophy degree wasn't of practical use for this job 😅), I showed resilience thanks to my tough but fair boss, who taught me the value of hard, efficient work.
