I have worked with Learning Disability services for over 25 years. Throughout the early part of my career I managed a number of residential care homes with a great degree of success. At the beginning of 2000 I became involved in a large local project to support 15 young people with learning disabilities make the transition from residential care to live more independently. The work, which took over 18 months, involved supporting the individuals to obtain tenancy agreements and assistance to navigate the somewhat complicated benefits system. The difficulties experienced by these individuals left a lasting impression and encouraged me to continue working within a supported living framework - this work continues today through Orbital 4.
