I have over 9 years’ experience managing technical projects, and have spent the last 2½ years doing change management and implementations in a large enterprise environment. I was in charge of code implementations to our pharmacy POS system. It required coordinating changes to our Oracle packages residing on midrange UNIX systems, the executables residing on MS Servers, and any needed changes to our financial systems residing on the mainframe. This involved testing new application code and determining its impact to current production and numerous downstream systems. My primary day-to-day responsibility was to oversee the change controls, and to manage the technical teams and environments. All of my experience in IT has required me to bridge the communication gap between technology teams and non-technical business end users. In my last position, the bulk of the testing was done by non-technical business users. This required me to guide them through the right practices for testing, and for reporting issues with the application. By helping them understand the technical background to the issue, they could better write their test plans and assure that these scenarios were accounted for in future test runs. I also designed the issue submission process and trained the business users on its procedures, reducing turn-around time for issue resolution by 300%.
