Jonathan heads Gateley's Commerce, Technology & Media team in Manchester. He specialises in intellectual property, information technology, commercial agreements and competition law, handling both contentious and non-contentious matters for local, national and multi-national businesses.Jonathan is well known in the technology and life sciences sector and acts for a number of bio medical businesses. He has particular expertise in the licensing and commercial exploitation of products, technology and devices invented or developed by spin outs from Univerities, including the drafting of licence, assignment, cooperation, joint venture, distribution and research and development agreements. Jonathan is also a respected and effective litigator, having achieved successful results for clients in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and the High Court in many fields ranging from pure IP infringements to IT system disputes.Jonathan consistently ranks in the top tier of Chambers leading individuals for IP in the North West and has also been recommended by the Legal 500 in respect of EU and UK competition law.Jonathan also has experience of working closely with corporate colleagues in securing funding on the back of IP for “spin out” operations and regularly advises on technology transfer. Jonathan’s IT work has ranged from complete IT outsourcing and systems procurement to maintenance, licensing and services agreements. He has also handled a variety of IT disputes on behalf of clients in various sectors.
