CESMII is a department of UCLA's Office of Advanced Research Computing and the United States’ national institute for Smart Manufacturing. We're focused on driving cultural and technological transformation and securing industrial technologies as national imperatives.As VP of Technology, I led the development of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Platform, a common interface and broker for contextualized manufacturing information, the Smart Manufacturing Profile, a standards-based approach for modeling and connecting to manufacturing data sources, and the DevOps organization.In the interest of seeing smart manufacturing achieved globally, I also serve as UCLA’s Principal Investigator on OPC Foundation Working Groups for Carbon Capture and Storage, Solar and Photovaltaic Operations, and the CESMII/UA Cloud Library.

As a Senior Software Developer and voice-of-customer advocate on the Proficy Plant Applications team, I was responsible for re-thinking user-interface design, providing leadership on the adoption of next-generation technologies, and working directly with users to translate their needs into software solutions across multiple product teams. A lead implementer on the Plant Applications team migration to new technologies, I developed key key user interfaces, guided teammates on technology implementations, and worked to align development with new frameworks and libraries.

At Activplant, we created an object model for industrial automation, making it easy to consume information in a manufacturing operation. We were among the early developers with web application technologies and I co-developed libraries and a framework in Javascript to facilitate rich applications and data interchange in a browser with a .NET Service back-end. I designed the user interface for the web-based application portal, was a member of the server-side planning and architecture team, and led the reporting subsystem dev team.Between releases I was engaged in training and evangelizing technology with our implementation partners and potential customers, presenting at events and in pre-sales opportunities.
