Uas Operator / Mission Commander

Redstone Arsenal, Al, Us

UAV Operator: Duties included a basic knowledge of C4I, performing site selections and surveys without error, accurately recording site and equipment data, performing equipment maintenance checks and pre-operational checks. Conducting Shadow UAS preflight without error and performing operator level airframe maintenance. In- flight duties included reacting to emergencies quickly and proficiently, resolving equipment and software problems, and communicating with crew members while maintaining a calm environment. Accumulated over 230 hours of Shadow UAS flight time including more than 150 combat flight hours.Mission Commander (MC): Duties included planning flights, coordinating missions and providing briefings to flight crews and command staff. My success demanded dynamically adjusting flights to fulfill mission requirements while working closely with supported units and Air Traffic Control. Success required a high degree of multi-tasking, rapid task prioritization, building mission reports, keeping an accurate daily log, analyzing weather, and making difficult and crucial decisions on the “fly”. It was critical to maintain positive communication with flight crew and customers while trouble-shooting complicated issues and taking full responsibility for all decisions made. Starting the deployment to Iraq as the only qualified MC I accumulated more than 500 combat hours and was responsible for regularly coordinating simultaneous missions. While performing duties as Mission Commander I co-authored the “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP) for the 81st Brigade and created a MC Checklist which is still used today. As one, of only two MC Unit Trainers in the 81st Brigade, I was responsible for setting and enforcing the MC standard.
