About Jonathan Parry

Jonathan Parry, MEng, Eco & Man (Oxon), MBA (Rice), CEng, MIMechE, SPEWith a distinguished thirty-year career, Mr. Parry has accumulated a wealth of experience collaborating with International Oil Companies (IOCs), National Oil Companies (NOCs), and Independents. As a Principal Engineer, he actively engaged in major capital projects spanning North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His tenure at ConocoPhillips included overseeing critical well operations in regions such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, the Caspian area, and Russia, where he made substantial contributions to the company's initiatives in new ventures and farm-in activities.Within the domain of Functional Excellence, Mr. Parry excels in establishing pertinent standards and processes aimed at efficiently managing corporate risk and enhancing overall value. His expertise primarily revolves around the intricate and challenging aspects of drilling, completion, and production of wells. Furthermore, he has assumed leadership roles in spearheading technological advancements to optimize well performance. As a Director at CERA, Mr. Parry spearheaded the organization's global unconventional gas research efforts, earning a nomination for the prestigious Danny award in recognition of his exceptional written and researched analyses. His specialization in North American Gas Supply led to active contributions to CERA's monthly North American gas market outlook. Additionally, he successfully managed the global supply forecasting team, showcasing his expertise in LNG analytics. Mr. Parry is also a prolific author with numerous publications on gas market dynamics and a respected speaker, often serving as a keynote presenter at renowned events such as CERA Week, industry conferences, and board-level presentations.Despite Mr. Parry's exceptional performance at CERA and his significant international exposure at the executive level across the industry, he encountered a pivotal career challenge within the organization. The company made concerted efforts to support his transition back into oil and gas companies, culminating in an interview for an EVP Planning & Strategy role at a prominent Fortune 50 oil company. The primary aim of this initiative was to promote CERA products to its existing customer base. Unfortunately, Mr. Parry faced quotas in successfully navigating this transition. Consequently, both his HR representative and management recommended his return to England, along with a suggested divorce, signifying a significant turning point in his professional journey.

  • Conocophillips
    Principal Drilling Engineer
    Conocophillips Feb 2012 - Feb 2015
    Houston, Texas, Us
STATEMENT:IHS, including CERA, had a monopoly on international oil and gas data for new ventures. The CERA management team frequently met with ConocoPhillips' executive team, including CEO Ryan Lance. During these meetings, CERA played a role in removing a competitor and including ConocoPhillips in a select group of eight oil companies competing for drilling rights off the coast of Senegal. Moreover, I suspect that a member of ConocoPhillips' management team may have been subjected to blackmail.Furthermore, Mr. Lance's involvement in what I perceive as retaliation extends to me, my ConocoPhillips manager, Jerome Eggemeyer, and his VP, Glenn Schaff. Notably, Mr. Eggemeyer was accountable for the loss of a rig in Kazakhstan, a region where CERA had a profitable consulting relationship and access to insider knowledge from those affected by the incident. Before joining CERA, Mr. Schaff was reportedly responsible for the termination of several VP of Exploration, and I believe his actions may have been seen as obstructive in the approval process. It's essential to point out that Mr. Lance's retaliation, in my view, violates Federal Employment Law.Principal Drilling Engineer, Regional Well Adviser for Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Russia & Caspian:• A&D technical evaluations: Assessed E&P investment opportunities and advised on day to day operations and forward planning for critical wells. Special recognition award for new country entry process.Principal Drilling Engineer, Corporate Performance Engineering / Functional Excellence: • Big Data: Supported Big Data efforts. Created a new sustainable processes to reliably report disparate Business Unit wells performance.• Functional Excellence: Assessed the impact of the Well Design and Delivery Process and contributed to approval for implementation. Created a new functional document process to manage corporate enterprise risk.
  • Cera
    Director, Global Gas Supply
    Cera Jul 2008 - Jan 2012
    London, United Kingdom, Gb
STATEMENT:I was terminated two weeks after the dismissal of an EEOC charge, which I believe was in retaliation for reporting an instance of fair dealing and sexual misconduct involving a salesperson and a customer, who happened to be an oil and gas executive in Houston. I had the option to take legal action and go to trial by jury, but instead, I chose to settle the case outside of court after seven months, receiving a settlement of $250,000. The settlement was funded using bonuses from CERA's management team.As part of the settlement, both parties agreed to maintain confidentiality, refrain from making disparaging remarks about each other, and, in exchange, I agreed not to pursue further legal action. Unfortunately, some employees, including members of the management team, violated this agreement by disclosing information. In my view, the CERA management team's continued benefit from the employment of this salesperson is morally analogous to enabling illegal activities, such as operating as a pimp or being involved in international sex trafficking.Director, Global Gas and Unconventional Resources:• E&P Asset Evaluation: Decline curve analysis using IHS production data to create basin and regional reserve analyses (ARIES/EXCEL/ENERDEQ/HEROLDS). E&P asset evaluation on a consulting basis for IHS Energy.• Basin & Regional Studies: Delivered CERA's global unconventional resource research 2011+ including managing a global matrix team of geologists, engineers, lawyers and economists to generate $7.0 million of revenue from a series of unconventional gas multiclient studies for E&P business development, new ventures, and corporate strategy teams. • Market Research: Supervised CERA's gas supply team, including LNG analytics, with three direct reports. Successfully predicted the emergence of the Marcellus and the Haynesville shale’s in 2009 - and the subsequent oversupply as part of the flagship North American gas service.

  • Shell
    Completion Engineer
    Shell Jun 2000 - May 2004
    London, England, Gb
STATEMENT: On January 9, 2004, Shell, the world's largest publicly-traded oil and gas company, shocked investors by reducing its "proved" reserves by 4.47 billion barrels, more than one-fifth of its total, raising concerns of potential fraud. Despite being non-U.S.-based, the SEC and the British Financial Services Authority (FSA) investigated Shell's actions and found a series of failures dating back to 1998 that led to the maintenance of reserves not meeting SEC standards. In my role, I managed the well engineering aspects of the Mars TLP waterflood project, adding 200 million barrels to our reserves. However, concerns arose due to the increased weight on the floating platform from the waterflood facilities, not part of the original design, particularly in hurricane scenarios. These concerns led to my departure in May 2004.In August 2004, Hurricane Katrina damaged the Mars TLP, toppling the drilling rig due to stability issues from the added weight of the waterflood facilities. Although offered a chance to return to Shell for well repairs, I chose to stay in Houston.Shell Oil (2000-2004): New Orleans, LA, USALead Completion Engineer: • Completion Planning & Operations: Mars deep-water TLP - $5 million budget responsibility per completion, and the safety of 120 offshore personnel. Completed the “retirement well” for the outgoing president of the IADC - high drag, tight tolerance, sweet to sour, intelligent well, fibre-optic and frac-n-pac. Shell safety rig of the year. Safely abandoned the Alex JC-1 high pressure high temperature gas well after a blowout (130MMscfd).Nederlandse Aaardolie Maatschapij (1998-2000): Schonebeck, NetherlandsProduction / Surveillance Engineer: • Field Production / Surveillance: Responsible for the safe operation and optimized production of one hundred sweet and sour gas wells producing 300MMscfd of gas from twelve onshore fields in urban areas.• Contracting & Procurement: Tendered Shell Europe’s well service contracts.

  • Akzonobel
    Mechanical Engineering Student
    Akzonobel May 1992 - May 1997
    Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Nl
STATEMENT:Early in my career this full scholarship appeared to be a promising opportunity. However, I came to view the 1992 demerger that resulted in the formation of Zeneca (now AstraZeneca) and the 1997 acquisition of Unilever's specialty chemical divisions as regrettable decisions. This perception was validated when Unilever acquired ICI in 2007, which had once been the UK's largest manufacturer, comparable to Dow Chemical in the USA.ICI Engineering scholarship in Chemicals and Polymers while studying at Oxford University.
