Sr Software Engineer
Designed, developed, and integrated a US currency authentication system. This distributed architecture system has four components that communicate with each other over an RS-485 network. The main component, a system controller, also communicates with a host machine via an IEEE-488 interface. Three of the components consist of an embedded x86 processor with additional supporting hardware. The fourth component consists of an embedded PIC Microcontroller housed inside a laser with additional supporting hardware. The software for this system is written in C. Designed and developed the algorithm used to process currency images to determine the quantity of a security feature embedded in the paper. The algorithm was developed using MATLAB and ported to the US currency authentication system. Developed several Linux kernel modules (device drivers) in C to make hardware components function within Spectra Systems products. These included RS-485 interface, spectrometer, analog to digital board, and digital I/O board device drivers. Designed and developed a quality control system to monitor US currency paper manufacturing. This software, written in C and Gnome/Gtk, executes on a Linux platform. Designed, developed, and integrated the software portions of two currency authentication systems for foreign markets. Developed the first system in C++ for Linux platform execution, and wrote the second system in C for embedded DOS platform execution. Designed and developed a quality control system to monitor foreign currency paper manufacturing. This software was written in C for Linux platform execution. Designed and developed a Windows application in C# to interface with and manage the quality control system via TCP/IP communications.Designed and implemented software in C++.Net to read bar codes on high speed mail sorting equipment. This application receives a barcode image from a camera, attempts to decode the barcode, and then displays the image and results.

Developed software to create and manage virtual network connections between the head-end cable router and the cable modems, and to provide network statistics to the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent. In addition, designed and implemented enhancements to the Spectrum Manager subsystem, which manages the frequency spectrum available to the cable router. These enhancements to the Spectrum Manager’s frequency agility and load balancing functions increased the maximum upstream baud rate for the cable router from 768 Kbits/sec to 1.5 Mbits/sec.
