Managed the Engineering / R&D department, which included 18 software developers on four teams: imaging, reporting, back-end, and database development. Developed and implemented a training plan for the department’s transition to Agile development methodology. Served as scrum master for the new cardiovascular reporting project.Designed, developed, and integrated new software features for the Cardiovascular Review Station (CRS). Responsibilities included developing software for integration with Agfa’s two Radiology Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), as well as developing new features requested by Cardiologists. As the lead architect, evaluated and integrated new components and features, and analyzed their impact on the delivered application suite.

Designed, developed, and integrated a US currency authentication system. This distributed architecture system has four components that communicate with each other over an RS-485 network. The main component, a system controller, also communicates with a host machine via an IEEE-488 interface. Three of the components consist of an embedded x86 processor with additional supporting hardware. The fourth component consists of an embedded PIC Microcontroller housed inside a laser with additional supporting hardware. The software for this system is written in C. Designed and developed the algorithm used to process currency images to determine the quantity of a security feature embedded in the paper. The algorithm was developed using MATLAB and ported to the US currency authentication system. Developed several Linux kernel modules (device drivers) in C to make hardware components function within Spectra Systems products. These included RS-485 interface, spectrometer, analog to digital board, and digital I/O board device drivers. Designed and developed a quality control system to monitor US currency paper manufacturing. This software, written in C and Gnome/Gtk, executes on a Linux platform. Designed, developed, and integrated the software portions of two currency authentication systems for foreign markets. Developed the first system in C++ for Linux platform execution, and wrote the second system in C for embedded DOS platform execution. Designed and developed a quality control system to monitor foreign currency paper manufacturing. This software was written in C for Linux platform execution. Designed and developed a Windows application in C# to interface with and manage the quality control system via TCP/IP communications.Designed and implemented software in C++.Net to read bar codes on high speed mail sorting equipment. This application receives a barcode image from a camera, attempts to decode the barcode, and then displays the image and results.

Designed, developed, and integrated software to support the Virginia Class Submarine ship control trainer. This embedded, real-time system was written in C and Ada using the VxWorks operating system. Also developed graphical user interface applications in C on a Sun Sparc Workstation that communicate with the real-time system. The real-time system provides the submarine ship control trainee with an environment and motion platform to simulate the actual workings and movement of a submarine.

Designed, developed, and implemented a code generation tool to automate the unit testing of C source code. This tool parsed the input source code and generated unit testing software in C to interface to the developer’s code. It also generated input data for the tested code, program stubs for all routines called by the tested code, and reports delineating the test cases and test results.

Designed, developed, and implemented C++ applications that interface with the FoxSCADA Power Generation System. Work included a Gas Turbine Control (GTC) application which monitors and controls the power generated by multiple gas turbines. Depending on the current electrical needs of a community, GTC will either start up a gas turbine when additional energy is required, or shut a turbine down when too much power is being generated.

Developed C software applications for Motorola’s head-end cable router embedded system. Developed software to create and manage virtual network connections between the head-end cable router and the cable modems, and to provide network statistics to the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent. In addition, designed and implemented enhancements to the Spectrum Manager subsystem, which manages the frequency spectrum available to the cable router. These enhancements to the Spectrum Manager’s frequency agility and load balancing functions increased the maximum upstream baud rate for the cable router from 768 Kbits/sec to 1.5 Mbits/sec.

Designed, developed and integrated C and X/Motif software in a UNIX environment to acquire and manage acoustical and meteorological data for US Navy systems. Designed and developed software to support a countermeasure tactical decision aid. This software was written in Ada for execution on an embedded system

Designed, developed, and implemented a bi-static acoustic signal processor. Developed this software in C for an embedded VxWorks environment. It included controller, interfacing, and archiving functions. Developed and taught week-long training courses throughout the United States. These courses were designed to teach engineers how to develop software applications for AT&T proprietary hardware
