I primarily work in the Kalamazoo Co. Jail as a mental health clinician screening inmates regarding potential mental health and/or substance abuse concerns. Jail clinicians work closely with judges, attorneys, probation/parole, police, and the public in an attempt to best resolved issues relating to mental health and/or substance abuse. Jail clinicians help coordinate medication needs pending authorization from KCMHSAS qualified prescribers, and work closely with the jail’s RN staff and MD. Jail clinicians may work to petition inmates for hospitalization if deemed clinically appropriate. This position requires coordination of care with providers to ensure appropriate needs are met for inmates while in jail. My position also allows me to ride along with police in the community, connecting with those who may require the assistance of a mental health professional.

Sequel Youth and Family Services has been providing services to youth at Lakeside Academy since the summer of 2007. Lakeside Academy, a Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited facility, offers a variety of treatment options for boys and girls ages 12 to 18 years old ranging from 30 days to 18 months.
