Directly responsible for the system and user acceptance testing of the Web’n’Walk mobile Internet and its enabling technologies. Day-to-day management of 25 test analysts comprising of both permanent and contract employees. Working across several business units with both internal and external stakeholders including hardware/software vendors and several of T-Mobile’s European networks.

Co-ordinated and executed end-to-end testing of the company’s uiOne and BREW product offering comprising of client, server and web administered back office elements. Rapidly grew strong team to 12 engineers to support functional and UA testing of a mobile-based shopping platform with end-to-end project management and hands on approach. Evangelised tools, process and automated testing to the wider test organisation led to several teams undergoing changes to revise their methodology.

Responsible for the test and qualification of the company’s enterprise level range of web administered Windows and Linux based optical data storage solutions. Directly managed 7 test engineers, 1 developer and a technical author. Fully responsible for the full test life cycle of the group’s software products and actively involved in the software development and release process.

Worked along side the software development engineers, testing the company’s leading edge video on demand product. This involved the testing of both the client side user interface and the server side management systems. I was also responsible for low-level software debugging and the production of documentation such as product specifications, test procedures/scripts (for use with WinRunner) and release notes. In addition to these duties, I became the company demonstration engineer. This required me to prepare hardware and software tailored to a particular customers needs and demonstrate it at the customer’s premises to assist in the pre-sales process.

Responsible for the manufacture and test of both client side and central office hardware. This mostly required the assembly and test of Pentium III based computers, incorporating both OEM and FutureTV hardware, followed up by the installation and configuration of Debian GNU Linux and FutureTV’s own software. Along with this I carried out modifications to hardware where required and had the opportunity to be involved in the some of the product design process, such as producing schematics using ORCAD and assembly of SMT prototype boards. This also included a significant amount of board calibration using equipment such as oscilloscopes and meters. I also provided a support role to the other departments in the company such as software and systems administration. I then progressed into being more involved in a customer facing role, providing in house and on site support to customers in Madrid and Dublin. I was also appointed as the employee health and safety representative.

My roll was to assemble, test and provide technical support for a range of high specification medical lasers used in the dermatological cosmetic surgery industry. This involved production of the laser hardware including preparation of precision optics, and calibration of PCB’s by means of tools such as an oscilloscope, to the complete set-up of the laser in preparation for installation. I was also responsible for the servicing and installation of the equipment, both nationally and internationally, including the United States, Asia and Europe. My large involvement with the service side of the products led me to becoming a Senior Service engineer in October 1999. I also had the opportunity to assist in product development and design, with pulsed Q-switched Ruby, pulsed Alexandrite and pulsed NdYAG laser systems.
