I have been practicing law since 1983. Over the past thirty years or so my law practice has focused more and more on representing churches and temples and people who are deeply involved in religion. It's an area of practice that appeals to me as a person of faith. In June, 2016, I joined with two experienced lawyers to form a firm to serve the religious institutions legal market. Together we have handled some exciting projects, winning precedent-setting cases concerning taxation of properties owned by religious institutions, decision-making in a Presbyterian denomination, authority in congregationally-governed churches, contested ownership of houses of worship, and other areas. In my prior practice, I have represented religious institutions in litigation in the federal and state courts in New York City. I have advised them about governance issues, and participated in pastoral disciplinary hearings. I have obtained visas for religious folk, and won claims for religious asylum in Immigration Court. I have also volunteered my time to serve on church boards and committees, and on bar association committees. In October, 2012, I was first named as one of the "Super Lawyers" in New York City in the Business Litigation category, and I have continued to be named to that list each year since then.
Listed skills include Appeals, Litigation, Courts, Legal Research, and 30 others.
