Co-Principal Investigator (Mit & Cqn)Center For Quantum Networks Mar 2024 - PresentCo-Principal Investigator (MIT appointment) and Thrust 4 leader at the Center for Quantum Networks (CQN), an National Science Foundation (NSF) funded ($25 million) Gen-4 Engineering Research Centre (ERC). CQN is developing the entire technology stack to reliably carry quantum data across the world. It is the NSF's only Quantum Technology ERC. Thrust 4 is focused on the social, economic, and political context so that the Quantum Internet is likely to function well in a practical, and not just purely technical, sense. The primary technical goal of CQN is to develop an error-corrected quantum network with connectivity with a rate of entanglement distribution of 1 megaqubit per second over metropolitan-scale distances, simultaneously for multiple user pairs, supported on a network backbone made of optical fibers, quantum repeaters and switches. -
