I currently work within East Riding of Yorkshire Council as the 0-25 SEND Team Manager, managing a team of 30 staff, including family coordinators, Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) officers, portage workers, direct payment and personal budget support officers, project officers (Local Offer and SEND), community short breaks workers and technical and administrative staff. Our team support children, young people and the families to access the support that they need, working closely with partners in education, health and care to coordinate services and empower service users to achieve optimal outcomes. I have extensive experience in working with allied services across education, health and social care, as well as managing large, multifaceted teams and budgets across children's services. My position includes operational and strategic oversight around short breaks (including residential care), the Local Offer and the planning and coordination of services for young people with SEND and their families.Previously, I worked as a Senior Education, Health and Care Officer, working in a person-centered and inclusive environment, leading a team of officers who support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) aged 0-25. The function of this team was to ensure that the statutory functions, as they pertain to Education. Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), were enacted. I am a qualified teacher (QTS) and have previously worked in mainstream primary schools and special schools, supporting young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and autism spectrum condition (ASC). I have extensive experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, cognition and learning disabilities as well as those with physical and/or sensory difficulties. I have a master's degree in Education, Inclusion and Special Needs from The University of Hull (Distinction), where my dissertation focused on perceptions around the implementation and delivery of Education, Health and Care Plans as they were introduced to replace Statements of Special Educational Needs. My professional interests include special educational needs, special educational needs law and policy, multi-agency working across education, care and health and the identification of under-represented groups in special education. In February 2022, I completed IPSEA's Level 1 SEN Law qualification (overall mark of 92%) and in September 2022 I completed IPSEA's Level 2 SEN Law qualification (overall mark of 93%).
