Jonathan Siskind Email and Phone Number
I'm Jonathan (or Jay, as my friends call me), a Stanford mechanical engineering/mechatronics student who has always had a passion for physical tinkering. Whether this interest manifests through tinkering on Stanford Space Initiative's rover team, working with new technologies in the Stanford Robotics Lab, or building my own projects, I love to create and innovate machines from scratch. Over the years, I've pursued various personal engineering projects in my free time. Some of the highlights of projects I've built include a robotic remote-controlled submarine, a wrist-mounted pyrotechnic device, a biomimetic robotic ornithopter, a contactless Arduino dispensing machine, and an IoT Raspberry Pi-controlled room assistant. Thus, I'm eager to pursue an engineering-centered career that involves mechatronics and robotics.

Undergraduate Researcher At The Charm LabStanford University Aug 2024 - PresentPalo Alto, California, United StatesConducting research on a novel affordable rehabilitation system for stroke survivors and their caregivers using small mechatronic wearables and an interactive game developed in Unity. -
Rover Team LeadStanford Student Space Initiative Oct 2022 - PresentStanford, California, United States-Lead the Mars division of the highest funded and populated engineering club at Stanford; managed the subteam’s $20,000 yearly budget-Currently leading the development of an autonomous, solar-powered, GPS-navigated rover with internet and LiDAR path-planning that will drive across Antarctica to the South Pole-Solved critical hardware issues with the RF transmitter and receiver so that communication could be established between the human-operated testing interface and the rover’s onboard microcontroller-Constructed the electronics enclosure and solar charging system for 2 early-stage prototype rovers to test navigational and autonomous capabilities -
K-12 Engineering MentorCurious Cardinals Jul 2023 - PresentStanford, California, United States-Provide both in-person and remote hands-on engineering mentorship to passionate K-12 students by guiding them through personally tailored engineering projects-I teach a wide array of fundamental engineering skills including CAD, Arduino circuit design, programming, and more-I guide my students through a personal projects; some projects have included a 3D printed functional robotic arm and an Arduino-powered car -
Electromechanical Engineering InternMbari Jun 2024 - Aug 2024Monterey, California, United StatesMonterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute:-Designed and built an IMU-driven ocean current logger for a coastal profiling float – an electromechanical device that travels up and down a water column (up to 500m) while measuring oxygen, pH, salinity, etc to assess ocean health over a long term period.-Development of the data logger involved embedded systems programming on an STM32 Nucleo board and a VectorNav IMU, along with electrical and mechanical design of a small-footprint enclosure to store the device within a waterproof pressure housing. -
Undergraduate Researcher At The Stanford Robotics LabStanford University Jan 2023 - Sep 2023Stanford, California, United States-Conducted both full and part-time robotics research under the mentorship of Dr. Oussama Khatib as the only undergrad in the lab -Developed a series of hardware and software upgrades to the handheld camera used by the teleoperated underwater exploration robot Ocean One K. This included the implementation of a tethered live camera feed to stream Raspberry Pi video to the surface, buoyancy leveling to minimize underwater roll, the integration of an OLED screen inside the camera housing for easier troubleshooting for the user, and correction of underwater lens distortion for sharper and clearer video. -My equipment was recently tested, utilized, and demoed in an advanced underwater research facility in Dubai. -
E-Commerce Business OwnerLego Bricklink, Inc. Jun 2020 - Sep 2022West Lafayette, Indiana, United States-Operated an online E-Commerce store for kits and toys: purchased hundreds of toys on clearance and sold, packaged, and shipped them at a markup after they were discontinued by the manufacturer-My operation made $4,000 from a $2,000 expenditure in the final 2 months of the store’s operation
