About Jonathan Siskind

I'm Jonathan (or Jay, as my friends call me), a Stanford mechanical engineering/mechatronics student who has always had a passion for physical tinkering. Whether this interest manifests through tinkering on Stanford Space Initiative's rover team, working with new technologies in the Stanford Robotics Lab, or building my own projects, I love to create and innovate machines from scratch. Over the years, I've pursued various personal engineering projects in my free time. Some of the highlights of projects I've built include a robotic remote-controlled submarine, a wrist-mounted pyrotechnic device, a biomimetic robotic ornithopter, a contactless Arduino dispensing machine, and an IoT Raspberry Pi-controlled room assistant. Thus, I'm eager to pursue an engineering-centered career that involves mechatronics and robotics.

  • Mbari
    Electromechanical Engineering Intern
    Mbari Jun 2024 - Aug 2024
    Monterey, California, United States
Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute:-Designed and built an IMU-driven ocean current logger for a coastal profiling float – an electromechanical device that travels up and down a water column (up to 500m) while measuring oxygen, pH, salinity, etc to assess ocean health over a long term period.-Development of the data logger involved embedded systems programming on an STM32 Nucleo board and a VectorNav IMU, along with electrical and mechanical design of a small-footprint enclosure to store the device within a waterproof pressure housing.
  • Stanford University
Undergraduate Researcher At The Stanford Robotics Lab
    Stanford University Jan 2023 - Sep 2023
    Stanford, California, United States
-Conducted both full and part-time robotics research under the mentorship of Dr. Oussama Khatib as the only undergrad in the lab -Developed a series of hardware and software upgrades to the handheld camera used by the teleoperated underwater exploration robot Ocean One K. This included the implementation of a tethered live camera feed to stream Raspberry Pi video to the surface, buoyancy leveling to minimize underwater roll, the integration of an OLED screen inside the camera housing for easier troubleshooting for the user, and correction of underwater lens distortion for sharper and clearer video. -My equipment was recently tested, utilized, and demoed in an advanced underwater research facility in Dubai.
