Jonathan Oriki Some is a multi-award-winning youth advocate, environmentalist, and social justice activist from Kenya. He recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from Kenya Methodist University. He currently serves as the African Youth Representative to the UN-HABITAT Youth Advisory Board, the National Coordinator of the National Youth Caucus of Kenya, and a director at Young Africans for Sustainable Africa. Jonathan is also the outgoing President of the Kenya Clinical Medicine Students Association (CliMSA-Ke) and the Young Clinician Representative to the Global Association of Clinical Officers and Physician Associates. He has been a UN Volunteer since he was 19 years old.Jonathan's leadership roles have enabled him to drive systems change and foster strong relationships with decision-makers, key stakeholders, and opinion leaders in health and environmental sectors. He is deeply committed to climate action, advocating for climate mitigation policies that prioritize the health and well-being of vulnerable communities. His work focuses on promoting sustainable practices and policies to reduce carbon footprints, mitigate climate change, and build climate resilience, especially in urban and rural settings.He is passionate about health equity, global health advocacy, and public health policies that shape the health outcomes of infants, adolescents, and marginalized populations. Jonathan believes that tackling climate change is inseparable from achieving health equity and sustainable development. He actively participates in policy dialogues and works with government and non-governmental entities to advance climate-smart healthcare initiatives and environmental sustainability.Jonathan's advocacy extends beyond health to encompass sustainable urbanization and climate resilience, where he collaborates with young people across Africa to challenge the status quo and drive meaningful change. His dedication centers on empowering youth, promoting sustainable development, and advancing the journey toward Universal Health Coverage to ensure that health is a right for all. He envisions a future where young people play a pivotal role in shaping policies for a more just, sustainable, and resilient world.
