As a Research Assistant in the Solar Fuels Lab at Columbia University, I investigated the optimal design of membraneless electrolyzers for the production of acids, bases, and hydrogen from seawater. My optimization process involved rapid prototyping of electrolyzers by use of Autodesk Inventor's computer aided design to 3D print improved designs. I electrochemically tested the prototypes to analyze performance and long-term stability of the devices. The design, test, fail and improve loop allowed me to rapidly identify issues and increase measured current densities.Key achievements:- Prototyped 8 different cell designs to learn, fail and improve, allowing for rapid improvements to the device- Learned more than 10 different skills including Autodesk Inventor, 3D printing, various electrochemical measurements (LSV, CV, EIS, CA, CP), project management and lab safety essentials- Engaged in weekly meetings to orally communicate complex ideas and present results in PowerPoint
