Advisor to a European pivate equity fund exploring an investment in a London-based FinTech company.

• Over a 10 year stint, was Technology lead (CIO) for Accenture Post Trade Processing (APTP), with overall responsibility for client onboarding & all technology. APTP integrates Broadridge technology into a scalable and efficient back office for investment banks. The service is currently live for a Tier 1 & two Tier 2 Investment Banks, with a substantial sales pipeline. With teams from multiple geographies, multiple parts of Accenture, multiple subcontractors, and business-critical processes, this is one of Accenture’s largest and most complex integration programs globally. APTP uses state of the art technology (Cloud, microservices, and large scale agile) to deliver for our clients. APTP is a regulated entity in the UK, and as a ‘company within a company’, has its own Board & financial structure. Today we process a material proportion of the total European fixed income & equities market volume. Technology team size c. 400, total company size c. 2000 people. • Responsible for all our work supporting & developing payments systems for a major global retail & commercial bank, including a period of extreme volatility during the banking crisis. This work included UK Faster Payments, European Payment Area systems, and production support including SWIFT & Euro systems. • Global sponsor for Accenture’s Program, Project, & Service Management capability. This included Accenture methods, training, and one of Accenture’s largest communities of practice.• Established the role of ‘Solution Architect’ globally in sales & contracting. The initiative responded to some high profile contract delivery issues by ensuring that we put delivery experts into proposal & contracting teams to shape competitive but deliverable bids. Led from inception to rollout, including personally engaging with most of Accenture’s global technology leadership team. Every technology opportunity globally above $m thresholds now has a Solution Architect, and we met our margin improvement targets.

Example roles:• Program manager for the specification phase for a regional payments clearing & settlement system for a global card processor. This included replacement of existing functionality and support for new payments schemes. Mixed Accenture/client team of c. 30 people. Unix/Java platform. • Delivery lead for a large scale desktop application migration project, managing a consortium (Accenture, Microsoft, HP) team to migrate the Bank's desktop application portfolio onto a rationalised and standardised platform and set of applications. Against a background of a troubled start and execution difficulties, this work was successfully delivered, enabling the bank to meet their objectives of moving to new premises using the new infrastructure.• Re-estimating and planning an additional build phase for Accenture's work on the development of a large-scale custom clearing system for derivatives products. This involve intense negotiation with the client to re-shape the program to a point where it balanced meeting their business objectives with delivery risk. Unix/Java platform.• Established project support & cloud technology services in the UK. Starting from an idea and a few individuals, grew the business to c. 150 people helping a significant proportion of Accenture's UK technology clients. The team provides project management support and technology environments on demand, using a local teams for mobilisation, cloud technology to scale up, and offshore operations for low cost. This operation is equivalent in revenue to a medium-sized Accenture client.

Example roles:• Programme Manager for the technology renewal programme of a UK Payments processor. The program aimed to renewing all the client’s core processing systems, in order to break in to new markets. I was responsible for planning and managing all aspects of requirements, development, and deployment, including the use of advanced public-key cryptography to secure payments data. This system now processes the majority of UK corporate payments. • Leader of a joint Accenture/client team developing a major upgrade of a settlement system for the European institutional bond and equity markets. The upgrade includes replacement of legacy systems processing, new business services, and performance enhancements. I was responsible for planning and managing the full development lifecycle. Team size c. 75 people, 10,000+ days, Unix/C++/Oracle platform. • Member of joint Accenture/client team charged with developing the business case for a new retail financial services proposition based around a new direct service offering choice-based investments in unit trusts and shares via the internet and call centre channels. I was responsible for the definition of the required business processes, and the design, evaluation, and cost estimation of the required supporting IT architecture (infrastructure and applications)• Led an Accenture team developing the technical infrastructure for a real-time settlement system for the Eurobond market. This involved the estimation & planning of the build phase, followed by leadership of the build team. Team size c. 75 people, 5000+ days, Unix/C++/Oracle platform. • Led the build team for the first two releases of the NIRS2 application. NIRS2 is used by 7,000 Inland revenue users to record National Insurance contributions and benefit entitlements for the working population of the UK. I was responsible for leading the technical design, programming, and test of the application. Team size 50-100, Unix/C/Sybase platform.

Example roles: • Led the implementation of a distributed technical infrastructure and operations environment for a Utility company. I was responsible for the design of some of the technical components, including middleware, and for the design and implementation of the operations environment for distributed systems. I then led the system and volume test of the new infrastructure, including security, imaging, and middleware services, which was subsequently rolled out to over 1000 PCs at over 20 sites. C/C++/Windows NT platform.

Development team leader for an enterprise expert system shell. Yes, AI in the 1980s & 90s. Windows / OS/2 / Systems programming in C/C++ for a 4GL product. Technical highlights included writing a dynamic linker, byte-code interpreter extensions, and mixed mode support for 16/32 bit libraries in assembly language.

Researcher & developer of medical image analysis software. Windows programming in C, systems work to drive image capture hardware, application coding for image analysis such as contour following, volume estimations etc for bone density extracted from medical x-rays.
