Over the course of my academic and professional career I’ve obtained extensive research experiences. My undergraduate degree in plant biology specializing in molecular and biochemical physiology was obtained at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. In 2018, I graduated with a Master of Science in Plant Pathology from the University of Kentucky. Both degrees have allowed me to pursue my passion of studying plant diseases of crops, using both applied and basic research methods to develop better management strategies.Working in agricultural research has allowed me to attend a robust set of advanced courses spanning multiple departments at three well-respected research universities. My ability to apply theoretical and experimental knowledge to problems of increasing importance is of value to any organization. This is where I excel most: translating theoretical topics into experimental designs for developing technologies with direct market applications. I have worked hard to develop my education in this way: taking diverse coursework while holding academic research positions and fulfilling industrial research contracts. This was done to help bridge the gap between basic academic research and expedite bringing technologies through further phases of development, from bench to market application. This approach has suited me well, as I have always had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a passion to make a difference in the world.

Biological Science TechnicianUniversity Of Tennessee Jul 2018 - Jan 2019Tennessee, United StatesWorking with the Plant Pathology research team in Tennessee, I engaged in several aspects of applied and molecular plant pathology. My direct contributions to the research included: performing qPCR to determine the quantity of virus in insecticide seed-treated Glycine max, managing greenhouse trials to determine a viable inoculation method for the pathogenic fungus Macrophomina phaseolina and annotating/analyzing next- generation sequencing data of fungi to determine single nucleotide polymorphic regions of interest for molecular epidemiology. -
Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Kentucky Aug 2016 - Jul 2018Kentucky, United StatesMy thesis research on seed treatment fungicide sensitivity in combination with several isolates of potential Trichoderma biological agents. Trichoderma sensitivity to fungicides was assessed using qPCR primers developed for the endochitinase region. Additional research efforts included field trials condcuted at the University of Kentucky Extension Center in Western Kentucky. Field plot research trials conducted at this research station ranged from: application technology, chemical formulation efficacy, and management strategies to control and manage pathogens of row crops including: corn, soybean, wheat, canola, and barley. -
Undergraduate Assistant ResearcherSouthern Illinois University Aug 2015 - May 2016Illinois, United StatesDr. Ebbs lab focused eco-physiological plant interactions pertaining to plant uptake and transport of contaminants. My research examined the uptake and trans-location of copper, silver, and cerium nanoparticles with associated ions in Tradescantia zebrina stem cuttings. Using an atomic absorption spectrometer, toxicity levels are determined in concentrations up to parts per billion. After perofrming an acid digestion simulation, human ingestion toxicity levels were determined using a mg/kg scale. -
Undergraduate Assistant ResearcherSouthern Illinois Plant Pathology Jun 2012 - Aug 2015Illinois, United StatesThe pathology lab at Southern Illinois University focused on disease prevention and management. Specifically focusing on Root Knot Nematode, Soybean Cyst Nematode , Sudden Death Syndrome , Frog-eye leaf spot and other pathogens which are economically relevant in Illinois. My duties consisted of general field data collection, culturing and maintaining various pathogens, preparing inoculum , setting up greenhouse and field trials, and working with data management using the statistical software program, agriculture resource management or ARM.
