Jonathan has extensive practical field experience in terrestrial environments, particularly Species at Risk. With Dillon, Jonathan held a role as the primary field biologist for several projects throughout Ontario, including ensuring project compliance for respective Endangered Species Act, 2007 authorization (permits and/or registrations) for a variety of species including Butternut, False Rue-anemone, Bobolink/Eastern Meadowlark, Eastern Whip-poor-will and Barn Swallow. Jonathan’s work experience with Dillon has included wetland delineation, functional assessments and evaluation for provincial significance, species at risk assessments, wildlife and terrestrial habitat assessments in support of environmental assessment projects for highway structure rehabilitation, oil and gas developments, wind farms, and residential/commercial developments.At the office level, Jonathan was an active member of the Toronto office's Social Committee, co-chair of the Community and Environment Committee, secretary of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, acting Equipment Manager (Quality Committee).

Duties included territory mapping, song recording, song focals, vegetation surveys, reconnaissance for birds, mist netting and extraction of target species, banding and biological sampling for blood and feathers of adults and chicks

Summerberry Marsh Research Project - Duties included live trapping muskrats, taking various measurements, applying ear tags and leg bands, taking blood samples and preparing slides, recording and entering data, performing basic GIS mapping, conducting vegetation surveys, performing basic maintenance on equipment (airboats, outboard motors), and performing necropsies on carcasses supplied by local trappers. Also helped out with DUC wetland control structure maintenance by removing beaver damming and fixing hung culverts.

Performed various cleaning tasks, followed a strict feeding schedule, monitored for health, breeding, stress and deceased fish as well as various parameters of the water (D.O., ammonia, pH), took part in the biological sampling of live broodstock (fin clips), prepared fish for transport, worked long shifts (12 hours) and holidays, worked either independently or as a small team (2-3 people)
