Accident analysis support for the commissioning of the Waste Treatment Plant vitrification facility at Hanford. Specific emphasis included nuclear safety, hazards analysis and evaluation, and accident analysis in accordance with 10 CFR 830 and DOE-STD-3009-94.Winning accomplishments include the ongoing development and maintenance of the Safety Analysis Inputs Database and contributing revision to the hazards analysis process.

Nuclear safety analysis support on contract for nuclear facility safety basis implementation in accordance with DOE O 425.1D. Site locations included Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) and the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PORTS) Department of Energy (DOE) sites. Specific emphasis included nuclear safety, criticality safety, and USQ process support in accordance with 10 CFR 830.203 and DOE G 424.1-1B.Winning accomplishments included the creation of a comprehensive requirements management database and integrated implementation evidence documentation system at Argonne National Laboratory. The system parsed and triaged the full text of the safety basis documents into implementing requirements and descriptive text. Implementing evidence records were then scanned, organized, and systematically electronically linked to each safety basis requirement.The database was instrumental in generating reports and queries that demonstrated a consistent and comprehensive top to bottom flow down of requirements to procedures, work control documents, training, and other documentation. The database was also critical as a centralized electronic document repository and index from which to print hard copy implementation evidence files for use in assessment reviews. The organizational innovation and benefits of the system were specifically cited in the final report by the reviewing DOE readiness assessment team as a significant contributor to the success of the readiness assessment.

Radiological nuclear safety analysis in support of GE Hitachi new fuel introduction and transportation cask shielding analysis. Specific emphasis includes radiation shielding and criticality safety analysis using MCNP code.Winning accomplishments included criticality safety analysis procedures to incorporate recent changes in NRC accepted methodology in accordance with 10 CFR 72. This provided value to the customer by implementing cost savings and improved analysis methodologies to facilitate regulatory review and approval of criticality safety analysis deliverables.

Administration and development of the USQ process at the Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project in accordance with 10 CFR 830, Subpart B, DOE O 420.1C and DOE-STD-1186. Specific emphasis includes USQ process and procedure development, USQ evaluator training, project-wide USQ process application guidance, safety analysis, and dose consequence analysis support.Winning accomplishments included improved implementation of the USQ process into a streamlined all electronic system. This innovative redesign geared the program toward a more efficient implementation for long term cost savings.Innovations also included the automation of the online Qualified USQ Preparer list by replacing the previous manually updated list with a dynamic query of the AMWTP site training database. This innovation saved the project money by dynamically automating a tedious manual update process and by facilitating the operational routing of USQ documentation to currently qualified personnel.

Winning accomplishments included the development of automated nuclear facility hazard categorization calculating series of spreadsheets in accordance with DOE-STD-1027 methodologies. This innovation directly resulted in the consistent standard application of DOE-STD-1027 hazard categorization methods to reduce human error and nuclear facility hazard categorization calculation cost savings.

Radiological analysis of environmental samples using alpha and gamma spectroscopy, proportional counting, and liquid scintillation counting techniques. Demonstrable proficiency related to nuclear instrumentation calibration, troubleshooting, and statistical data analysis.
