I won this fellowship to work on my dissertation, "Recalibrating Risk: The Political Ecology of Coal in Twentieth-Century Appalachia."

The Julian Price Fellowship in Humanities and History is a competitive year-long grant (providing tuition, an annual stipend, and a research budget) offered to graduate students who have completed their qualifying exams and have begun work on their dissertations. I was awarded this fellowship for the first stages of research on my dissertation "Recalibrating Risk: The Political Ecology of Coal in Twentieth-Century Appalachia."

The Behind the Veil collection consists of more than 3,000 oral history interviews covering African Americans' experiences with racial segregation and white supremacy in the American South during the 20th Century. As the project's Research Assistant, I managed public access to the collection, provided research leads with notes drawn from transcribed interviews, and cataloged previously unprocessed material.
