Lead a team of full-time Supervisors. Responsible for the Department’s budget and special CI projects.Provide highly responsible and complex support to the Parks and Recreation Director.Coordinate assigned activities with City Commissions/Committees, other City departments, outside agencies and the community.

Oversee the planning, development, maintenance, and operation of City of Newport Beach recreational areas including parks, facilities, programs, and special events. Plan and direct major work activities of personnel engaged in providing parks and recreation activities. Develop and implement employee in-service training programs in proper methods, procedures, and safety practices. Develop, implement, and administer a division plan for the programming, maintenance, and overall use of community centers and recreational areas. Develop, implement, and administer programs on beaches and beach amenities. Review, revise and advise on construction plans and capital improvement projects. Monitor local, State and Federal legislation regarding parks and recreation issues. Practice and implement department policies and procedures. Prepare and monitor division budget. Oversee and lead the special event grant process, develop project budgets, evaluate programs, and monitor fiscal compliance. Prepare and give presentations to various interest groups and governing bodies. Supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Act as liaison between park patrol (park rangers), public works staff, and the public. Assist and coordinate with community partners, including the Boys and Girls Club, Newport Aquatics Center, Chamber of Commerce. Prepare memos, letters, reports, and agenda items.
