In my role, I was responsible for writing, editing, assigning, proofing, and everything else that goes along with producing content for the web. I also hired a solid group of both full-time and freelance editors, copyeditors, formatters, and others who've helped me push the business and content forward. During my tenure, I was responsible for growing these sections considerably, taking the informational section from 10,000 monthly PVs to over 1.5 million, along with other successes in bridging the space between editorial and commerce content. Every two weeks, my dad would take both myself and my brother to our local barbershop due to our hair growing like weeds. The constant cuts however, became the highlight of my week. Why, because our barber was a car guy through and through. He subscribed to every single magazine; Motor Trend, Road & Track, and of course, Automobile. It was a dream job. My dream job. But never something I thought I’d get to live.Years went by, tires were destroyed, tickets were accumulated, and my ravenous need to consume anything car related continued; but I traveled a different path. One day, my wife bought two tickets to the Formula 1 race in Austin and my life changed forever. The sound and fury buzzed in my brain. The sound of the V-8s shook me to my very core and I wanted, nay, needed to share my experience with others. So, I did something that would later become my life, I wrote a post. It got picked up and put on the front page of an automotive website, even though as I now look back realize absolutely everything about it was horrid (I wrote it at 2 o’clock in the morning, perhaps with a frosty beverage sitting next to me). Terrible writing aside, it was what help propel me into this new life. Right before Christmas in 2015, I got an email from Mike Floyd. He asked if I would like to come by and talk with him. I, after heavily breathing into a bag, accepted. The day came and it was only mid-way through the meeting that I realized it was an interview. I thought, at the time, maybe they’d let me write a few things for Automobile’s website, and that’s it. What it turned out to be was so much more, and became that little boy’s dream realized.
