Jon Lucas is a commercial writer, filmmaker, business owner, sessional instructor, and cheeseburger connoisseur. After majoring in Film Studies at Fanshawe college, he helped establish the first Video Marketing department at the Federation of Students while attending the University of Waterloo. The experience solidified his passion for writing & producing video content to both entertain and inform. Driven by this desire (to not only conceptualize an idea but materialize it) he embarked on a multi-year endeavour to learn as many production-related skills as possible. From screenwriting, cinematography, sound design and directing to editing, visual effects, colour grading, and delivery workflows - Jon combed through training resources, tinkered, and collaborated with industry professionals to gain hands-on experience in as many technical & creative filmmaking trades as possible. In his early days as co-founder of Arc Media Inc, Jon’s most common project contributions were as: Writer, Director-of-Photography, Editor, Post-production Supervisor, and Producer. In growing the creative team to meet rising demand, his focus shifted to developing the creative processes, technical workflows, and team dynamics necessary to scale this multidisciplinary approach to commercial filmmaking into a fully-staffed agency & production house. Now a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Jon was given the opportunity to design & lead a 300-level course called DAC 308 - Cinematic Art and Practice as a hired sessional instructor, and loved every minute of it minus the a/v system (which was finicky at best). Today he’s working to develop Arc Media Inc into a world-class creative video agency, partnering with global brands such as OpenText, Shopify, Manulife, Sport Chek, and Avaya to design & produce cinematic video content that connects and compels.
