Lead Mechanical Design Engineer
CurrentWorked as part of Electroimpact's SCRAM system design team, within the Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) branch. The SCRAM system is an integrated large-format 3D-printing and AFP cell, designed for in-house rapid-prototyping of AFP concepts. I lead the design of the Gladius pellet extrusion head for this system. This was Electroimpact's first pellet extrusion head to be developed fully in-house. It focused on ease of maintenance and upgradability, as well as making a number of improvements to the process quality. It featured a thermally insulated barrel to improve temperature response and thermal efficiency, as well as a liquid-cooled smoothing ring to improve layer adhesion and print quality. It was capable of 30 lbs/hr of extrusion.
