Senior Economic Analyst
Financial Stability Assessment & Strategy directorate, in the Financial Stability Group.
Associate Director / Economist
Economist and associate director with the International Finance and Macroeconomics team in the Milken Institute's research department. I conducted policy oriented research on capital flows, financial market structure, systemic risk and financial stability. Some of my work focused on U.S. banks' non-core funding, and small and medium-sized U.S. banks' concentrations in commercial real estate lending.
Visiting Lecturer
Courses taught: Intermediate Microeconomics, International Economics, Economic Development, Money and Banking.
Consultant Economist
I worked as a consultant economist in the Emerging Global Trends team in the World Bank's Development Economics Prospects Group (DECPG), carrying out forward-looking analysis of trends in the world economy with an emphasis on identifying looming challenges and trade-offs facing developing country policymakers. Two of the main projects I worked on were co-authored reports in the Global Development Horizons series. The first of these was on long-run shifts in the geographic concentration of global economic growth; my main contribution was the construction and exposition of a quantitative index of a country’s influence on global growth across time, and using it to show that the concentration of global economic influence had been decreasing over the previous decade as emerging economies became engines of global growth. The second report was on long-run global trends in demographics, saving, investment, and international capital flows. In one chapter, I built scenarios for the global pattern of gross capital flows through 2030 and the evolution of monetary policy spillovers as the international financial system becomes more diffuse; and in a section of another chapter, I built various scenarios for age-related public expenditures on health care, education, and pensions for a set of six developing countries.I also produced two research papers on channels of financial contagion through international banking (subsequently published in the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and the Journal of International Money and Finance), and a policy article on the reshuffling of the international banking industry in the wake of the Great Financial Crisis.
