Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in any type of engineering opens up a plethora of job opportunities, even far beyond one’s engineering specialization. After growing up with an affinity to STEM classes and a peculiar curiosity to learn how things are made and function, I obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State in May of 2019. Shortly after, I joined the workforce and haven’t looked back since, while also learning so much along the way.In my first full-time role as a Project Engineer, I helped to produce and manufacture composite parts for Aerospace companies to be used in government and commercial application. One project that sticks out to me was working to support the launch of the NASA perseverance rover, which landed on Mars earlier this year.My current position as a Project Manager has been meaningful in more ways than one. Assisting my company in starting an OEM Agriculture brand from scratch has been difficult and rewarding, especially seeing so much progress in such short time. Further, dealing with supply chain shortages due to Covid-19, which have snowballed into project delays, has been a larger challenge than I could have expected. I find success and peace in taking everything one day at a time.I hope to continue to gain more valuable skills, both concrete and abstract, which can develop my Engineering abilities beyond where they are now. I believe we should always be learning and seeking new ways to adjust and get better.
