Jonathan Beilin is an artist, teacher, and technical advisor working with new and emerging media. His work uses 3D and interactive technologies, virtual production, and projection mapping to engage with concepts such as geological-scale material histories, speculative futures, and systems affecting labor and agency. Beilin’s work has been shown nationally and internationally at exhibitions such as the Transmediale festival in Berlin and the Mutek festival in San Francisco.As an extension of his artistic practice Beilin teaches studio classes in motion capture/virtual production, synthetic media, and game design at Parsons School of Design. Beilin takes a simultaneously historically-grounded and experimental approach to these tools, leading students to consider how technology and their work relates to broader cultural issues. Beilin also works with artists and cultural organizations as a technical director for immersive and interactive media. Past projects include prototyping an XR experience for the Finnish National Opera & Ballet’s Opera Beyond festival in 2019 and a VR experience for WITHIN in 2015. He is currently working with New York-based artist Alison Nguyen on a video installation and new media performance project ‘Andra8’ which involves motion capture, 3D modeling, and animation. The project has been shown at International Studio & Curatorial Program (Brooklyn, NY), CPH:DOX, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Prismatic Ground, OK Corral (Copenhagen), and in live online performances.
