I’m a philosophical optimist. I believe that change is a constant in life, and that we are all designed to adapt to those changes. My story reads like a proof of this thesis.At the wise old age of 18, I decided to seek a degree in printing from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, I found a job in—you guessed it—the printing industry. It seemed like a great idea, right up until the invention of the internet, the iPhone, and later, social media. I spent about a decade reinventing our business model, coming to terms with the changing value of printed media while developing a new appreciation for the more casual language delivered through social platforms. As I explored options for a business focused on delivering people’s printed words, I became obsessed with the human invention of language. Together with my curious employees, we set out on an educational odyssey, learning about human evolution through the lens of language. Storytelling became our focal point. Stories, we learned, were the best tools for processing facts into beliefs. In 2016, we developed Mythos—a software platform designed to capture the impact stories created through philanthropic giving. Every gift results in a story. Our goal was to help organizations find these narratives, creating belief in their purpose while connecting donors to the impact of their giving. Building Mythos into a communications platform became a mission. Today, when not consumed with the development of Mythos, I work with the organizations I love. I have the honor of serving on the board of LIFT—a national pro-equity organization that supports families on their journey out of poverty. And when not LIFTing, I serve on the RIT President’s Roundtable, where we address the changing nature of higher education. But mostly, I spend time with my wife Susannah, our five children, and dog, Fitz. Five children you ask? Well that’s another, long story…
