My military career gave me the privilege of working in Reconnaissance for my Brigade; known for our ability to work independently and away from standard modus operandi. These experiences have afforded me the ability to negotiate, procure, self-motivate and have an eye for detail. I have a belief in sustainability and had the opportunity to put my passion for the natural environment and wildlife in to practise when I qualified as a member of the Field guides association South Africa. As a field guide, I had the important job of taking people into the natural environment, teaching them about the area its animals and how to interact in an ethical way. I was taught to go beyond just stating facts and created a guided experience. I carried that forward with my role as a Land Rover Experience instructor, creating individual experiences, whilst continually making risk assessments. I have demonstrated tenacity not only in my work life but also my personal interests; I have been a team member on several expeditions some have bought me to tears, but all have given me a personal insight and an ability to push on and focus on the objective. Lessons taken from ski mountaineering such as minimum effort maximum altitude form part of physical survival and require planning and application along with the ability to remain flexible, I feel these lessons can be transferred into the business world with great effect.
