Developed and delivered healthcare portfolio improvement services, service-line and product-line profitability assessments, determination of client “needs-based” operating margins and other performance measures. Significant accomplishments include:Evaluating the past and current operating performance of the American subsidiary of a $3B publicly traded international renal dialysis company relative to its competitors for presentation to Wall Street analysts. Identified sub-optimal pricing of services and provided client with an executable plan to improve top-line revenues by more than $300M. This plan was presented to analysts and successfully implemented.Assessing financial feasibility of converting a general medical/surgical hospital into a specialty psychiatric hospital. Determined that the planned $7.5M project was not financially viable, enabling client to avoid significant start-up costs and operating losses and redeploy available capital to alternative profitable projects.Determining financial feasibility and payor coverage of developing a dedicated heart hospital for a large academic medical center. Determined that the market demand for the proposed level of service was insufficient to justify a costly $62M go-forward decision. As a result, client was able to refocus its market expansion efforts to more profitable expansion of obstetrics and outpatient services.Evaluating financial viability of several distressed hospitals that comprised an operating division of a larger health system. Provided senior executive leadership with concise decision frameworks in which to evaluate their closure strategy. The resulting hospital closures enabled this health system to improve its operating results by over $35M to facilitate its acquisition by a large proprietary health system.Developing operating projections and compelling performance improvement targets / business imperatives for numerous financially distressed hospital clients.
