Working on a variety of projects to improve the aviation world's resilience to the impact of adverse weather and natural hazards. In particular working with key stakeholders to reduce the costs that are incurred by the aviation industry by disrupting weather events that affect airport and airline operations (resulting in delay and cancellation of flights) and Air Traffic Management networks. In essence this is about encouraging a risk management approach to dealing with disrupting weather events and using appropriate mitigation planning on various timescales for dealing with the inherent uncertainty in weather forecasts. Also, introducing new weather forecasting capabilities.Knowledge of SESAR and Work Package 11.2 (Met.) projects.Currently leading on the Met Office's Aviation data-as-a-service product strategy - and doing a shed load of discovery. I have a focus on using probabilistic forecasting and risk management techniques to optimise operational decision making in the airport, airline and Air Traffic Management arenas and managing the development of the Met Office's Aviation web product portfolio, including our OpenRunway and ClearFlight products. There is also an emerging technology strand to my work with the near availaibility of web services technology which will mean aviation met. content is available using new industry standards - WFS, WMS, WCS and WPS - which all figure on the Met Office's future product horizon. This naturally leads into another aspect of my work involving new applications for weather information, in particular getting met. into the cockpit of aircraft using Electronic Flight Bags. I also manage key stakeholder relations with customers in the ATM domain.
