I setup Maia Systems to deliver focused production efficiency to the oil & gas industry. This was focused on the development of rotating equipment optimisation tools, including hardware (data collection and integration) and software (analysis model and reporting) for rotating equipment and maintenance optimisation.During this period, I undertook work for John Crane to develop a corporate model for the application of wireless condition monitoring to rotating equipment in their business. This was in support of their shaft line solutions - mechanical seals (wet and dry gas) and power transmission couplings and to further their Performance Plus brand offering.Following ongoing discussion with the Smiths Aerospace and John Crane EAA board, the business became the inception of John Crane Asset Management Solutions.

I worked as a senior development engineer working on the development of a rotating equipment management programme. This included sensor and system selection/design, model development & testing and software application development. This was performed with a variety of end users including defence and oil & gas. Programmes were undertaken with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and US Department of Defense (DoD).I also worked closely with company owners and the senior management team to develop the strategic intent of the business to move from heavily technician based to an intelligence based business.

I worked as a Research Associate on condition monitoring of reciprocating machinery predominantly using acoustic emission, vibration analysis and process monitoring.This was an EC Framework funded project which involved working with industrial partners including, MAN B&W, Perkins, Hellenic Refineries and Maersk.I performed technical modelling, and analysis, validated with hands on research, both on test beds and in real applications in oil & gas, shipping and general transport. I wrote a number of journal papers and presented at a number of international conferences during this time.
