It ManagerOnex Communications 2000 - Sep 2001Toronto, Ontario, CaOnex was looking to move to the next level. I joined Onex as the IT Manager to replace a small team of IT consultants. My responsibilities included building out a proper NIS authentication infrastructure to support 20+ Sun workstations and servers. In time, I gained support for moving to standard x86 hardware taking advantage of the Linux operating system to replace the Sun solution. This transition proved to reduce chip compilation times by 50% at 1/3 the cost of the Sun MIPS systems. Additional responsibilities included MS Exchange administration, building out a secure Active Directory environment, standardizing workstation builds to reduce support overhead, and getting the software licensing under control. Network, server, and service monitoring became critical leading the deployment of systems for providing 24x7 alerts of any problems crossing set thresholds. Onex Communications was acquired by Transwitch in September 2001. -
