- Developed and performed multiple water quality experiments using a proprietary catalyst on pilot plant scale infrastructure made specifically for treatment of oil-sands process water. These experiments were conducted to show the catalyst not only can block GHG emissions, but also treat the process water at the same time. The catalyst was observed to capture up to 95% of emissions and increased sulfate concentrations in the process water.- Gained hands-on field experience operating pilot-plant equipment such as reactors, pumps, pipes etc. Experience used engineering principles such as fluid mechanics to determine the correct specifications required for pumps and piping. Developed other calculations such as mass flux to help understand the required air flow rate within a flux chamber deployed over open water. - Improved project management skills by contacting vendors, assisting with BOM's, and developing cost analyses for different conceptual and experimental designs. - Developed various designs of experiments for short lab studies and CFD simulations using Ansys Fluent. The lab study and simulation were used jointly to validate each other for future analysis in scale-up projects.- Improved on Microsoft Office skills including Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint to deliver presentations, communicate ideas, write operational procedures and final reports, and analyze data to deliver conclusions. AutoCAD and PowerPoint were used to create drawings and understand the materials required for constructing the component of each drawing.

- Aided in managing the North, South and isolated high-pressure natural gas transmission systems all around Alberta. Work consisted of helping project engineers understand temperature and flow constraints, hydraulic modelling of upcoming projects, addressing emergency leaks and writing pressure system impact assessments, and identifying areas around Alberta to optimize gas flow or pressure. - Developed an emergency response plan (ERP) for the South Integrated system that provides safety measures in the event that the system cannot handle the pressure requirements to maintain gas for every customer. Hydraulic models predicted that the ERP would be required at temperatures below -25 degrees Celsius. - Attended conferences within organization as well as with personnel outside of the organization which provided valuable insight on the direction that each planning group is heading into, interesting projects happening around the organization, and future projects that each group will be working on moving forward. - Learned valuable lessons about how to work effectively as a team by participating in weekly and monthly meetings, communicating with gas control to evaluate system conditions, teaming up with multiple engineers from different departments to achieve project success, and enjoy lunches and coffee with peers and team members to bond and develop strong relationships.

- Developed working model of Suncor's instrument air system using PI ProcessBook and PI Datalink designed to help operators access information about the major components of the instrument air system. The system was also hydraulically modelled using Pipe-FLO Professional to optimize instrument air assets and identify system errors such as reduced air capacity or increased humidity. - Learned the fundamentals of the Management of Change (MOC) system and the MOC components required for changes made in a process facility. - Developed strong hazard identification experience from participating in a large-scale process hazard assessment of Suncor's cogeneration plant. The 2-week PHA covered all possible hazards that currently exist within the plant and hazards that may arise if certain conditions occurred, resulting in multiple recommendations to improve process safety and operation. - Developed a coded spreadsheet in Excel that uses a machine learning model trained with a full year of data that optimizes heat integration to effectively reduce natural gas usage as a utility. The model was compared to multiple regression models and a first principles approach and was found to accurately optimize the natural gas system and save a potential of $40,000/day in natural gas costs. The model was also trained to predict natural gas usage and costs during major turnarounds.
