As you move through your career and life, you realise that certain “things” become more or less important to you dependent on where you are in your life. As a child I remember the important things to me being the annual family camping holidays in Devon and Cornwall, school holidays playing in the fields, climbing trees, building dens and playing football in our street. Later childhood saw a move to riding bikes, tinkering with old motorbikes for scrambling over the fields, music and all the things that teenagers do……… Late teenage years was spent working on motorbikes and cars during the evenings and weekends, rebuilding engines in the back of the garage with my Dad’s help, also an engineers by trade. Early work life was in engineering in Leicester, the Hosiery industry, where you had to grow up and learn quickly to survive the rampages of the Lockstitchers and Overlockers rooms, not a safe place for a young lad in those days !! Working as an apprentice on the knitting machines was a good grounding for the rest of my working life, always learning and working hard.After my apprenticeship I decided I needed to explore other jobs and had numerous roles in a myriad of occupations, Grocer, Driver, Rivet Maker, Plumbers store, but eventually came back to being an engineer, I really do just like to tinker with things. Throughout my life and from an early age I learned that treating people the way you wanted to be treated made things happen and got things done. This has stuck with me for the rest of my life. Currently living in the Peak district with my family and our dopy Cocker Spaniel, a great place to take a long walk and enjoy the spectacular views. Update June 2023 - had to say goodbye to our dopy best boy after a very short illness, miss him like crazy !!
