Jon Entine is founder and exec director of the Genetic Literacy Project (geneticliteracyproject.org), an independent foundation-funded nonprofit that examines the intersection of media and policy on human and agricultural biotechnology. The GLP addresses issues as varied as COVID vaccine development and rejectionism; CRISPR medicine and gene therapy; rejection of crop biotechnology; crop chemophobia; and climate change denialism. He is a lifelong journalist. He has written thousands of articles and hundreds of television news reports and documentaries. Before transitioning into print journalism, Jon spent 20 years with ABC and NBC News as a writer, producer and executive, winning 19 major news honors including two Emmys and a National Press Club Award. He is a former senior fellow at the World Food Center Institute for Food and Agricultural Literacy at University of California-Davis, focusing on science policy and risk management; senior research fellow at the Center for Health & Risk Communication at George Mason University; and visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Jon is credited with coining the current usage of the term "greenwashing" which he applied to The Body Shop cosmetic company in a series of investigative reports in the early-mid 1990s that won him a National Press Club Award in Consumer Journalism. He subsequently founded ESG MediaMetrics [E=environmental; S=social; G=governance], writing and producing sustainability/corporate social responsibility audits and reports for foundations and companies. Over his journalism career, Jon has written more than 1,400 articles and was a long-time columnist for British-based Ethical Corporation (author of "The Contrarian" column), Huffington Post, Forbes, Slate and Science 2.0. He is the author/editor of seven books, including "Let Them Eat Precaution: How Politics is Undermining the Genetic Revolution in Agriculture"; "Scared to Death: How Chemophobia Threatens Public Health"; and "Pension Fund Politics: The Dangers of Socially Responsible Investing". Past best sellers include "Abraham's Children: Race, Identity and the DNA of The Chosen People" and "Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We're Afraid to Talk About It" which was based on an award winning documentary that Jon wrote and produced with Tom Brokaw at NBC News, "Black Athletes: Fact and Fiction."Specialties: biotechnology, agricultural policy, sustainability, media bias, media ethics, public policy research, reputation management, crisis management, bioethics, energy extraction, chemicals, NGOs, transparency.
