I managed the company’s growing digital direct-to-consumer efforts with a focus on sustainability, mycological education, and the Host Defense dietary supplements line. I managed a team of five and oversaw social media, paid advertising, website content and e-commerce, as well as supported a robust email marketing initiative.

Fargo, North Dakota Area

Working with the team at Folkways—a community building and placemaking organization—I explored how sustainability can strengthen communities. I began my time completing ethnographic research with involved Fargo community members. I then coordinated a design-build project that transformed an old gas station into an urban park. Over the course of the experience, I also created and led a zero-waste initiative at the local farmers market.

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Working with the Circulo Initiative—a for-purpose collection of businesses in sustainable farming, hospitality, and adventure tourism—I was the project manager for their sustainable farm and ecolodge. I worked closely with and managed a five-person team to ensure that early stages of design and construction were properly implemented and aligned with the strategic vision. My work included master planning, overseeing water system design, composting system design and implementation, and garden bed design.

Greater New York City Area

In the first term of my ecological design fellowship, I worked with the team at Terrapin Bright Green—a sustainable design and strategic planning consultancy. I explored how the firm's Ecological Design services, called "Phoebe," can benefit clients' business interests while protecting ecosystem health. My responsibilities included design workshop facilitation; researching resilience, climate change, bio-inspired innovation, and water management; creation of web and print marketing materials.

Seattle, Wa

I worked closely with both the Seattle and firm-wide marketing teams, as well as firm leadership and architecture teams to research and develop strategic pursuits for new work, as well as writing and producing statements of qualifications, proposals and interview presentations. With a strong interest in design and collaboration, I consistently worked under multiple deadlines to structure complex information into effective storytelling using a variety of media. I also sought out opportunities to help grow our office culture in ways that make the office a more interesting and productive place to be. This included working with an interdisciplinary group of colleagues to launch an in-office micro-grant program to spur innovation in the profession.

Binh Duong, Vietnam

I worked closely with a diverse team of educators as I taught academic English and IELTS preparation to both university students as well as Vietnamese university staff. I facilitated training and lectures in the four core learning areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing as I built on my experiences as a university instructor.

Downtown Minneapolis

In the first five months of my time at United Way, I provided superior customer service to corporate volunteers working within 250-plus local organizations. I acted as a resource to create a better understanding of United Way's services in order to maximize fundraising efforts. In my last two months, I took the opportunity to assist in both the finance and IT departments.

I initiated and led a number of practical and innovative projects in my two years at the University. These include coordinating a student-led web development project for the University’s English website, implementing Classroom Connection projects into my curriculum in cooperation with American teachers, and acting as the newspaper adviser for the newly created English language campus newspaper. I have also continued to enhance my core teaching interests in such courses as Media & Culture, Creative Writing, and Conversational English.

I taught Conversational English as well as Creative Writing to freshmen and sophomores. This was my first time working in the Chinese education system and found the experience meaningful as I began to develop my curriculum and teaching style.

Here, I worked closely with a team of teachers and instructed 20-plus students with mental and physical disabilities. I taught writing, math and life-skills while reinforcing repetition and routine to increase students’ independence.

Queenstown, New Zealand

I initiated an in-house advertising department at Outside Sports (Queenstown, New Zealand) in collaboration with the General Manager. In my design position, I focused on creating advertisements for local, national and international publications and in-store signage. This was in addition to supervising sales in the company's retail store.

I developed business solutions to clients by focusing on interactive and emerging technologies. I worked full-time at Aquarium from May - August 2006 and then worked as a freelance consultant until August 2008.

In four semesters at the Kansan, I held a variety of positions including management roles in my final two semesters.
