Stride Labs was a start up company where we developed software to help users to manage and discover the files and documents in the cloud. Using the mobile and web app, the users would be able to quickly discover the contents relevant to them from the popular cloud service providers such as Dropbox, Box or Google drive.As a founding engineer I was responsible for designing and implementing the back end system to support the mobile and web clients. The communication between client and server was done on a secure REST interface. The backend servers were designed as a micro service where each components are highly concurrent and can be easily scaled independently of each other. The system was implemented using node.js, and employed various cloud technology from AWS and Heroku.

Acompli was a mobile app for email that provided superior user experience with better integration among email, calendar, and address book contents. Acompli was subsequently acquired by Microsoft and became Outlook for Mobile.I was part of a small group of server team where we have built the cloud services for the mobile clients. Backend services were built using various technologies including Java, Postgres, Elastic, Cassandra, and could scale up to handle millions of users and petabytes of data.

Zimbra is an email and collaboration software suite. It has an email server that can be used to host email accounts, such as Microsoft Exchange or Google Apps for Work. It supports standard email clients such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or native iPhone and Android mail apps. It also comes with own web based client. Zimbra was acquired by Yahoo in 2007, then in 2010 VMware acquired Zimbra from Yahoo.During this journey I was involved in many different part of server development, including email, calendar, address book, and notes. Zimbra embraced open standard and open source technologies. It was an active participant in developing open source software and standards such as IETF and CalConnect.
