Researcher, problem solver, and experienced 'pracademic' passionate about regulation that delivers for all Aotearoa New Zealand. I work in and across regulatory systems to understand complex issues and provide advice to senior decision makers. I ascribe to 'set and adapt' over 'set and forget'. Before moving into regulatory policy design at Maritime NZ, I worked in regulatory stewardship at MBIE and MPI and was a boots-on-the-ground frontline regulator at the Commerce Commission. My career in central government began after concluding a PhD in ethics and philosophy of language at the University of Otago where I lectured in a full gamut of areas of philosophy. In my spare time, I can be found in the mountains on rock, snow, and ice with the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) and Wellington Tramping and Mountaineering Club (WTMC). I currently serve as WTMC's vice president, helping the smooth and successful running of the club for its 600+ members, and contribute also to instruction, risk management, and liaison work across Wellington area clubs.
