About Jon Karl Sigurdsson

Understanding my surroundings has had my attention for as long as I can remember. I sought insight and solutions via undergraduate studies in mathematics and physics. I enjoyed the rigorous rules in the language of mathematics and I had the desire to develop and use mathematics to describe the physical world that we live in. This desire led me to a position in one of Iceland's major banks, where I was introduced to stochastic calculus for the purpose of pricing instruments. The stochastic world of mathematics fascinated me. It brought the uncertainty with which our lives are filled into the rigorous environment of mathematics. My interest was sparked for further studies in this field which directed me to the applied mathematics program at University of California Santa Barbara. At UCSB I deepened my knowledge of mathematics and stochastic calculus. I learned ways to develop and implement computational models in the context of gaining insight into biological phenomena. On the sidelines of my career path I have learned that helping others gives me a lasting satisfaction. As a future goal I would like to use my background and experience to that end.
