My mission is to leverage learnings from MS and other disease areas to enable a long called-for shift in strategy in epilepsy therapeutics away from the existing paradigm of symptom management and towards cure. Before transitioning to a career in biopharma clinical development, I spent 15 years in the clinic and at the bedside, focusing on bringing advanced therapeutics to children with incurable epilepsy and partnering with them and their families.Now, I am learning all that I can in the context of an amazing MS therapeutic development team- pursuing innovative preclinical modeling, biomarker evaluation, and clinical trial design- towards advancing the concept of disease modification from relapse prevention alone to prevention of disease progression. Disease modification is a crucial stepping stone towards cure. There is arguably no therapeutic area further along in bringing cures to patients with neurological illnesses than in multiple sclerosis. Patients with other neurological illnesses have experienced similar crucial advances in the past decade.
